Day #06 – The First Double Workout of the Challenge
Today was the first time that I had to resort to running a double during the challenge.
Last night I was out late doing some work with the Maine Track Club, so I decided I was better served by sleeping in a little this morning than getting up. Since I don’t like eating any later than I have to (although I often do) I tried getting in a mile at lunch time so that I could make a single loop out of my evening run on the trails.
My plan worked out pretty well. By organizing everything this way, I was able to get a great egg breakfast this morning, some leftover meatballs for lunch, and after the run we made some mussels which I haven’t had in quite a while. (They are very good!)
The highlight of the evening was certainly the trail run with my wife after I got home from work tonight. It started to snow while we were out there, which was nice when the breeze was at our backs but when it was in our face the snow was a wee bit too icy to be comfortable flying into our eyes.
It was a beautiful night, though, with temperatures still hovering around the high 20s. Once we were off the road everything went silent, and with the loose footing under our feet in the snow there wasn’t even much of the sound of us running.
We stopped out on the trails to record the update about a half mile before leaving them and hitting the roads to come back to the house.
It was a nice way to finish off the day. I had a migraine earlier while I was at work, which put me out of sorts for much of the morning. I’m not a big fan of going blind, even if it is relatively short in duration these days.
The past day was also a great day for donations! We have more than doubled the donations since yesterday.
I’d like to thank Kirsten Dykstra, Teresa Price, and especially my friend Kevin Koch who left this motivational comment with his donation: “To show my support I will be attempting to drive 500 miles this month.”
