Win A Free Pair of Recovery Socks
Matt Frazier from No Meat Athlete let me know about a product called Recovery Socks, a graduated compression sock that helps stimulate blood flow after a workout.
I’ve been a fan of compression sleeves for the past year, ever since I ran my first 50 miler about a year ago.
I’m excited to announce that the folks over at Arcosox (the US distributors of Recovery Socks) agreed to sponsor this week’s contest, and even sent a test pair to me last week to evaluate them for myself. I’ve been wearing them most evenings since I got them, and even wore them to bed the past couple of days, and I’ve been very happy with them.

From their website, Recovery Socks are designed to:
- Stimulate blood circulation
- Improve oxygen delivery to the muscles
- Reduce lactic acide production
- Relieve cramps
- Boost performance
Recovery Socks are made from a patented antibacterial fiber and is used by many world-class athletes in their training.
For myself, I’m far from world class, and I’m not doing any high intensity running right now. Instead, I’m just running a lot, going further each day, with most of my mileage in the snow.
So far, I haven’t had any calf tightness at all. My lower legs have felt pretty good, and I’m planning on continuing to use them for the rest of the month to help get me through this challenge. I will admit that they look a bit silly, but then I’ve never felt a need to wear knee high socks before and I’m not wearing them to make a fashion statement.
You can learn more about Recovery Socks at their website: http://www.RecoverySocks.com
How to Win A Pair
If you’d like to try them out yourself, then I am going to be giving away 1 pair each to 2 people (supplied directly from Arcosox) that leave a comment below by end of day Sunday, January 24th.
Winners will be chosen at random, so if you want to make fun of my hideous carpet in the picture above then I will not hold it against you and it will not affect your chances of winning!

Comment by Allison Mathis on 2010 January 19:
Curious to try them out!
Comment by Seth Hasty on 2010 January 19:
I’ve run in the Cw-X compression socks, but these looks pretty awesome!
Comment by Eileen Hamilton on 2010 January 19:
Hey, that carpet looks just like mine!
Comment by Scott McCulloch on 2010 January 19:
After running Hellgate 100K in running tights (plus shorts!), I’m now a believer in compression. I wants me a pair!
Comment by Kevin Mitchell on 2010 January 19:
Hey Blaine,
How long do you wear them after your run? I could use a pair for the Mid Winter Classic.
Comment by John Fenton on 2010 January 19:
One of the best runners in Cincinnati swears by a competing companies recovery compression gear, but I haven’t wanted to spend the big bucks to buy them. I’m a cheap-skate, which is one reason running appeals to me in the first place.
Comment by Mark on 2010 January 19:
Dude, you looked really tired in the video, are the miles starting to catch up to you. Also I think I have similar carpet at my house…not that I like it.
Comment by Suze Schroeder on 2010 January 19:
I am curious to try them out, too, Keyser, you old force of nature, you :p
Comment by Alex on 2010 January 19:
Boy that carpet isn’t too bad….
Comment by Laura on 2010 January 19:
I like anything that aids recovery!
But on this 1 more mile thing?… better you than me, pal! LOL
Comment by Daniel Ly on 2010 January 19:
I’m a UC Davis student and a marathon runner. Too broke to buy these socks. Need the money to buy Top Ramen noodles. Please let me win!!!
Comment by KathyB on 2010 January 19:
Wow…the socks sounds interesting. I also use tights in the winter and LOVE them. I have never heard of the socks, though. Curious!
Comment by Pete Cole on 2010 January 19:
i would like to try them
Comment by Drew on 2010 January 19:
Cool! I’ve been interested to try something like this, but I’m too cheap.
Great job on your challenge, Blaine.
Comment by Paul on 2010 January 19:
I’ve worn The Strassburg Sock before which also does compression…I love it.
Comment by Joe on 2010 January 20:
Would one wear them while running? In lieu of running tights.
Comment by SkeeterMC on 2010 January 20:
Hey R2W good job so far. I’ll keep stalking your log on RA!
Comment by Aaron Heath on 2010 January 20:
Good luck with the one more mile! That’s awesome.
Comment by Dana on 2010 January 20:
keep on running!
Comment by Ben on 2010 January 20:
Great idea! Keep running!
Comment by Jessica Rudder on 2010 January 20:
If those socks stopped at the calves, they would be identical (in look) to the gargantuan and thick socks my dad used to wear when he worked on the oil rigs in Wyoming in the 80’s.
I’ve been doing research on the compression sleeves and leggings as I’m interested in anything that makes my recoveries smoother after a long run – especially now that I’m training for an ultra.
Comment by Craig on 2010 January 20:
Have not tried a pair yet, but think they may help my calf/hamstring issues!
Comment by Rahn on 2010 January 21:
I know people swear by the compression socks, so I imagine these are good too.
Just saw your post about your challenge on the ultralist. Way to go…my lazy self would have chosen to do it in Feb.
Comment by Liz on 2010 January 21:
I definitely need new socks, although more like the socks you run in than the socks you wear afterward.
Take it easy, man, and run strong.
Comment by Darrell on 2010 January 21:
The one more mile challenge is crazy, great job so far. I am seriously impressed….and I wouldn’t mind the chance to win the socks.
Comment by BadDawg on 2010 January 22:
Hope they work well for you Blaine, you’re coming to crunch time now. I’m already very impressed with your effort, if you can run the marathon distance or more on six consecutive days it will be a really amazing achievement. Best of luck to you!
Comment by Chip on 2010 January 22:
quite impressive. good luck with the final 9 days.
Comment by Dustin on 2010 January 22:

Great job with the challenge so far!
As I’ve been increasing my milage training for Boston (I’m running more than I ever have too!), I’ve been thinking about some sort of recovery/compression sock to relieve some of the calf tightness and general soreness I’ve been experiencing…
Comment by CC on 2010 January 22:
Would love to try them!
Comment by Elizabeth on 2010 January 22:
Was too busy checking out your legs and didn’t even notice the carpet
Comment by Mark R on 2010 January 22:
Interesting, I’d love to try them out.
Comment by Jim Berger on 2010 January 22:
I’m in for a shot at these. Lord knows I can use any help I can get as I retrain for my first marathon after a 15 year layoff from running …
Comment by Keith on 2010 January 22:
Don’t you get cold feet wearing them too bed. I’m in the land of no warm floors so they might be pretty uncomfortable. There are plenty of products like that here in Japan so perhaps they have merit.
Comment by Anna on 2010 January 22:
Training for Boston qualifier this year and all the speed work is killing me.. Would love a pair to help with the recoveries.
Comment by Ian on 2010 January 22:
What I need is a pair of socks that’ll do the running for me!!
Anyone know where i can get me a pair?
Comment by Alan on 2010 January 22:
Great recovery tool. Highly recommend!
Comment by Alan Ramsdell on 2010 January 22:

Comment by GregW on 2010 January 22:
Consider me entered.
Comment by Melissa on 2010 January 22:
I wonder if those socks would help in avoiding plantar facitiis??? I’m almost all healed up, and am looking forward in getting back to my running routine again!! Wow I sure am a Miss Crabby Patties without my run!!! lol I bet those awesome socks would aid in me staying injury free!!
Comment by rachel on 2010 January 22:
i’d love a pair of recovery socks but haven’t been able to afford a pair on my own yet…
Comment by Lorrie Gray on 2010 January 22:
That carpet looks like what I had until we got rid of it and put in hardwood floors!
Comment by Miguel on 2010 January 22:
I’d like to try them to see if all the hype is true

Comment by Dusty on 2010 January 22:
I’m quite curious if it would help my feet that ache after my long runs (18+ easy or half + raced).
Comment by Cindi on 2010 January 23:
I would love to win a pair of these socks for my sister! She is a diabetic and walks/jogs 4 miles a day. They would be very helpful for her legs and recovery. Many thanks, Cindi
Comment by Larry on 2010 January 23:
I run in knee highs and don’t cramp, so I wonder if those actually work?
Comment by David on 2010 January 23:
I have been running in compression socks for two years and love them. I also have a pair of compression tights and my run speed is 30 seconds per mile faster with them. In the winter they are great, but in the summer in Florida they are too hot. I have never tried the Recovery socks but based on your recommendation I am going to try them. I am doing triathlons and my legs get a lot of work with both running and cycling. Thanks for the tip on these.
Comment by Greer on 2010 January 23:
Can’t believe it’s a pair of socks getting you through these days with all the work you’re doing! They must be great. Best wishes for the rest of the month and getting through to your goal!

I’d love to try a pair of those soxs out but you would never find me admitting I bought something like that…..I will however take a picture of my legs with them on,for the whole world to laugh at, if I win a pair.

My sore legs from my training run yesterday tell me these would be awesome. That and the 77 other people clamouring for a pair
