Win A Free Pair of Recovery Socks

Matt Frazier from No Meat Athlete let me know about a product called Recovery Socks, a graduated compression sock that helps stimulate blood flow after a workout.

I’ve been a fan of compression sleeves for the past year, ever since I ran my first 50 miler about a year ago.

I’m excited to announce that the folks over at Arcosox (the US distributors of Recovery Socks) agreed to sponsor this week’s contest, and even sent a test pair to me last week to evaluate them for myself. I’ve been wearing them most evenings since I got them, and even wore them to bed the past couple of days, and I’ve been very happy with them.
Recovery Socks
From their website, Recovery Socks are designed to:

  • Stimulate blood circulation
  • Improve oxygen delivery to the muscles
  • Reduce lactic acide production
  • Relieve cramps
  • Boost performance

Recovery Socks are made from a patented antibacterial fiber and is used by many world-class athletes in their training.

For myself, I’m far from world class, and I’m not doing any high intensity running right now. Instead, I’m just running a lot, going further each day, with most of my mileage in the snow.

So far, I haven’t had any calf tightness at all. My lower legs have felt pretty good, and I’m planning on continuing to use them for the rest of the month to help get me through this challenge. I will admit that they look a bit silly, but then I’ve never felt a need to wear knee high socks before and I’m not wearing them to make a fashion statement.

How to Win A Pair

If you’d like to try them out yourself, then I am going to be giving away 1 pair each to 2 people (supplied directly from Arcosox) that leave a comment below by end of day Sunday, January 24th.

Winners will be chosen at random, so if you want to make fun of my hideous carpet in the picture above then I will not hold it against you and it will not affect your chances of winning!

  2. I’ve run in the Cw-X compression socks, but these looks pretty awesome!

  4. After running Hellgate 100K in running tights (plus shorts!), I’m now a believer in compression. I wants me a pair!

  5. Hey Blaine,
How long do you wear them after your run? I could use a pair for the Mid Winter Classic.

  6. One of the best runners in Cincinnati swears by a competing companies recovery compression gear, but I haven’t wanted to spend the big bucks to buy them. I’m a cheap-skate, which is one reason running appeals to me in the first place.

  7. Dude, you looked really tired in the video, are the miles starting to catch up to you. Also I think I have similar carpet at my house…not that I like it.

  8. I am curious to try them out, too, Keyser, you old force of nature, you :p

  9. Boy that carpet isn’t too bad….

  10. I like anything that aids recovery! ;)
But on this 1 more mile thing?… better you than me, pal! LOL

  11. I’m a UC Davis student and a marathon runner. Too broke to buy these socks. Need the money to buy Top Ramen noodles. Please let me win!!!

  12. Wow…the socks sounds interesting. I also use tights in the winter and LOVE them. I have never heard of the socks, though. Curious!

  13. i would like to try them

  14. Cool! I’ve been interested to try something like this, but I’m too cheap.

Great job on your challenge, Blaine.

  15. I’ve worn The Strassburg Sock before which also does compression…I love it.

  16. Would one wear them while running? In lieu of running tights.

  17. Hey R2W good job so far. I’ll keep stalking your log on RA! :P

  18. Good luck with the one more mile! That’s awesome.

  19. keep on running!

  20. Great idea! Keep running!

  21. If those socks stopped at the calves, they would be identical (in look) to the gargantuan and thick socks my dad used to wear when he worked on the oil rigs in Wyoming in the 80′s.

I’ve been doing research on the compression sleeves and leggings as I’m interested in anything that makes my recoveries smoother after a long run -- especially now that I’m training for an ultra.

  22. Have not tried a pair yet, but think they may help my calf/hamstring issues!

  23. I know people swear by the compression socks, so I imagine these are good too.

Just saw your post about your challenge on the ultralist. Way to go…my lazy self would have chosen to do it in Feb. :D

  24. I definitely need new socks, although more like the socks you run in than the socks you wear afterward.

Take it easy, man, and run strong.

  25. The one more mile challenge is crazy, great job so far. I am seriously impressed….and I wouldn’t mind the chance to win the socks.

  26. Hope they work well for you Blaine, you’re coming to crunch time now. I’m already very impressed with your effort, if you can run the marathon distance or more on six consecutive days it will be a really amazing achievement. Best of luck to you!

  27. quite impressive. good luck with the final 9 days.

  28. I’ve enjoyed following your progress so far, Blaine. Good luck!

    And thanks for the contest.

  29. I’d love to give those a try.

  31. Great job Blaine!
Would love to try out the socks!

  32. Great job with the challenge so far!

As I’ve been increasing my milage training for Boston (I’m running more than I ever have too!), I’ve been thinking about some sort of recovery/compression sock to relieve some of the calf tightness and general soreness I’ve been experiencing…

  33. Would love to try them!

  34. Was too busy checking out your legs and didn’t even notice the carpet

  35. Interesting, I’d love to try them out.

  36. I’m in for a shot at these. Lord knows I can use any help I can get as I retrain for my first marathon after a 15 year layoff from running …

  37. Don’t you get cold feet wearing them too bed. I’m in the land of no warm floors so they might be pretty uncomfortable. There are plenty of products like that here in Japan so perhaps they have merit.

  38. Training for Boston qualifier this year and all the speed work is killing me.. Would love a pair to help with the recoveries.

  39. What I need is a pair of socks that’ll do the running for me!!
Anyone know where i can get me a pair? ;)

  40. Great recovery tool. Highly recommend!

  41. Blaine. I’m sure The socks will give me some relief as I begin the road to fitness one more time. Alan

  42. Consider me entered.

  43. I wonder if those socks would help in avoiding plantar facitiis??? I’m almost all healed up, and am looking forward in getting back to my running routine again!! Wow I sure am a Miss Crabby Patties without my run!!! lol I bet those awesome socks would aid in me staying injury free!!

  44. i’d love a pair of recovery socks but haven’t been able to afford a pair on my own yet…

  45. That carpet looks like what I had until we got rid of it and put in hardwood floors!

  46. I’d like to try them to see if all the hype is true

  47. I would love some post run relief. And some hip looking socks.

  48. These would be cool to try. Reading your updates are inspiring me, I’ve been having trouble getting motivated to do my runs in all this snow!

  49. curious to see if they work

  50. I’m quite curious if it would help my feet that ache after my long runs (18+ easy or half + raced). :)

  51. I would love to win a pair of these socks for my sister! She is a diabetic and walks/jogs 4 miles a day. They would be very helpful for her legs and recovery. Many thanks, Cindi

  52. I run in knee highs and don’t cramp, so I wonder if those actually work?

  53. I have been running in compression socks for two years and love them. I also have a pair of compression tights and my run speed is 30 seconds per mile faster with them. In the winter they are great, but in the summer in Florida they are too hot. I have never tried the Recovery socks but based on your recommendation I am going to try them. I am doing triathlons and my legs get a lot of work with both running and cycling. Thanks for the tip on these.

  54. Can’t believe it’s a pair of socks getting you through these days with all the work you’re doing! They must be great. Best wishes for the rest of the month and getting through to your goal!

  55. Heh, these are nice :D
Why not try them out XD

I hope that you’ll finish your 1 more mile for sunshine challenge in best possible way…Peace be upon you!

  56. Really want to give these a try!

  57. I’d love to try these out!

  58. Since you encouraged me to do so, I’m commenting. Nice run today, I’ve got a black toenail that could slow me down tomorrow, but hopefully I’ll be able to join you for 10 in the afternoon.

  59. good luck with the challenge!

  60. 14 miles today. 7 tomorrow. I could use the sox tonight!

  61. I’ve always been curious about these things.

  62. Training for my first Triathlon at the age of 49.. I need all the help I can get …

  63. Hey…looks like the standard Berber carpet…we have it in our house too!!! I swear by my Smartwool socks for running in the winter in Maine…but would give these a try…congrats on your efforts so far..

  64. i’d like to try it also it seems comfortable

  65. Good luck on the final (most challenging) week of your goal Blaine. Please enter my name in the recovery sock contest.
