Today was the second run of the challenge. For the last few weeks of December, I got in a bit more training than I might otherwise have needed to in preparation for the challenge. Hopefully this first week of relatively easy runs will give me plenty of time to recover before the going really starts to get tough half way through week 2.

Yesterday, I did a little shoveling before heading out to the Resolution Run, and that seems like it is going to be the theme for the next few days at least. It was snowing all morning and the forecast doesn’t seem to have an end in sight at least through tomorrow, although I don’t trust Maine weather forecasts so we’ll see what happens.

I got out and stuck to the roads near my house to get my 2 miles in today. They were a bit slick; there wasn’t really any good purchase to be found even with screw shoes on. Thankfully, there wasn’t much traffic today, and since the run was so short I was only out there for a very limited time.

When I got home, I recorded the above video and then my wife and I got to shoveling our driveway out. Thankfully, the snow was pretty light so it only took a bit over half an hour to clear out the 4 or 5 inches we’d gotten so far, and the snow had slowed down enough that we did not feel completely discouraged by the state of the areas we’d already shoveled when we finished.

Tomorrow I expect that I will get my miles in with my snowshoes, but hopefully the snowmobiles get out a lot and pack down the snow so that it can freeze into a nice icy (and safe) road so I can avoid running on the actual roads.
