Day #04 – No Snow for a Change

I was a little slow getting moving this morning, but felt much better after I’d had some breakfast. It has finally stopped snowing, so you’ll notice that today’s update is relatively clear. I do want to apologize for the self-held camera – I’ll try to make sure that my wife does the recording in the future!

I didn’t have to do much shoveling today, only about 15 minutes worth. I just cleared out the heavy snow at the end of the driveway that the plows dropped off for us so that I could get the car out, and Erin cleared out the rest of it while I was getting my run in.

Despite the sun being up I decided to wear my obnoxiously bright but highly visible and reflective jacket. The footing today was pretty slick, I definitely need to replace the sheet metal screws in my road shoes since they are pretty dull (I never removed them after the 2009 Winter season.) The side roads near my house and the 3 feet closest to the snowbanks were especially slick, so when there wasn’t traffic I was running towards the middle of the road.

It was a nice and easy run, though, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Tomorrow I am planning on returning to the trails, and today I will start sharing some winter running tips on the site along with my daily updates.

I am also going to have a weekly contest, and I will get this week’s contest posted by this evening at the latest.

Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank Doug Welch for being the first to donate for the challenge! Doug is one of the race directors of Lex’s Run, a 5k in Massachusetts that raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Here are today’s numbers:

Miles Projected: 4 Miles (10 Miles Total)
Miles Run: 4.05 Miles (15.8 Miles Total)
Duration: 33:15 (3:38:12 Total)
Net Weight Change: +1 Pound (+1 Pound Total)
Total Raised: $25.00

  1. Hi Blaine -- Are you having fun yet? I am looking for a good 10-mile trail for when you are in CT … maybe a hike that day? Then you will be happy to sit and drive home to Maine!! Loved the snowshoe pics!!

Happy New Year yo you & Erin!!

    Jeanne

  2. No problem, my pleasure. Keep up the good work and thanks for the shout-out!

    Doug

  3. I should have said “our” pleasure as the donation was from Lex and I… LOL!

  4. Jeanne -- that’d be great! (Speaking of which, anybody else going to want to meet up for a run next weekend in CT in the Cheshire/Meriden area?)

Doug -- I figured that it was probably from both of you! I appreciate it.
